Pasta is a type of food that’s often served with sauce. It comes in a variety of shapes and can be topped with various vegetables and meats. Some types are refined and some are whole-grain.

Whole-grain pasta has higher fiber content and lower calorie content. This helps to keep the body from becoming overweight and helps prevent cancer and cardiovascular diseases. There are also some types that are high in selenium and phosphorus.

A popular pasta is penne. Penne is a small, cylindrical shape. They’re usually served in cream or tomato-based sauces. In fact, they’re one of the top 10 most popular pastas in the world.

Another popular pasta is tagliolini. These noodles are similar to fettuccine and are made from semolina-flour. Their thinness makes them ideal for soups. However, they can also be used in stir-fries and casseroles.

There are a number of other types of pasta. Tortellini, for example, are large filled pastas. Typical fillings include raisins and cheese.

Another type of pasta is a tube-shaped one called ditalini. These tubes are used in soups and can be found in various shapes and colours.

Another popular type is gnocchetti. These small, sardine-shaped noodles are often accompanied by meaty sauces.

Finally, there are pastas with a corkscrew-shaped design. This includes the canule, which dates back centuries in Italy.

The earliest recorded recipe for pasta was in an early 5th century cookbook. In this recipe, the dough was formed into layers with meat stuffing.
